Dr. Gigi Hofer is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) who sees clients in her inviting and comfortable office in Victoria, B.C. She also makes house calls and does Skype sessions worldwide.
Gigi mainly works with elementary, middle, and secondary students who are struggling academically, but whose academic challenges stem—at least in part—from underlying social-emotional challenges, and/or learning disabilities. She also works with students who are not struggling academically; rather, who are primarily experiencing social-emotional difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and difficult life transitions.
With Owl Education, Gigi integrates tutoring & counselling to facilitate clients in identifying and using strategies (that incorporate their interests and skills) to understand and to manage challenges. She works with clients on their academics while also tackling other issues, and in the process, clients become empowered to find success in school and beyond.
Gigi’s approach has evolved through her experiences as a researcher, counsellor and tutor and it has proven extremely effective. She has a PhD in Education from UBC where her focus was on social, emotional and academic interventions for struggling learners. Gigi has expertise counselling clients facing a variety of challenges, such as anxiety, depression and difficult life transitions; and diagnoses such as learning disabilities and mental illness.
She believes that only when their social-emotional needs are met, can students whole-heartedly engage in academic learning.
